ABERYSTWYTH WARDENS NEWSLETTER
The Aberystwyth Wardens Dramatic Society Newsletter - July 2007
Your committee, Chairman David Kendell, Treasurer Theresa Jones, Secretary Amy Jones and members Sonia Dobson, Jo Julier, Jenny Ward, John Corfield and Julie McNicholls have been busy organising some social events and discussing this years’ pantomime. Here are some important dates for your diary and some other information you need to do, including dates for the AGM! Hope to see you all there.
1. On Thursday 5th July, member Angela Blakemore is going to run an improvisation workshop.
“This is an opportunity for everyone to actively take part and learn to express their dramatic skills,” Angela explains. “Participants will need to bring with them photo/s in frames, albums or pack of photos or just a single. What ever you chose to bring try to select photo/s that have special meaning/memories, feelings of mad sad glad funny or just happiness. Or just make up a story to go with whatever you bring; though truth is more powerful and real to work with. The workshop will have group work and coaching culminating in each participant delivering a three-minute dramatic solo performance in a safe and nurturing environment. And if there is time working in pairs to try another short performance. To enhance the dramatic performance, try to wear fairly plain/black clothes. Hope to see you there.”
We need to know how many people would like to take part in order to secure a venue so please contact Julie McNicholls (Julie@cambrian- news.co.uk) to book a place. Time and venue to be confirmed.
2. Theatre trip – Don’t forget we have a group booking to see ‘West Side Story’ on Thursday 26 July. A few tickets are still available so PLEASE get in touch with Jo Julier (jjulier@gotadsl.co.uk or 01970 612655) or Julie McNicholls (Julie@cambrian-news.co.uk) a.s.a.p. if you would like to go. Tickets cost £13.50
3. We would like to organise another Treasure Hunt – those who took part last time will remember how much fun we had! We would like to organise this for the evening of Thursday 2nd August – time and meeting point to be confirmed. Once again, we do need numbers so please let us know if you are interested as soon as possible. E-mail Jo, jjulier@gotadsl.co.uk or call 01970 612655
4. Possible performance in the museum – As some of you will remember, The Wardens were invited to perform a production of ‘The Boyfriend’ in Ceredigion Museum in 2005. Following on from the success of that, we have been asked if we would like to put on something else there towards the end of the year. We are in talks about the type of event we would like to stage, so keep a look out for more information on this in the future.
5. AGM – The date for our Annual General Meeting has been set for Thursday 20th September. This is an invitation to all members to attend where, among other things, you will be invited to vote for new committee members.
6. Don’t forget that on the 30th September, there will be another round of pantomime auditions for non-members, those who couldn’t attend the first one and children. The audition for children will take place first at 10am – meet at the Arts Centre. Adult auditions will take place at 2pm – meet at Arts Centre. Those who have already auditioned need not do so again, unless invited. All who have auditioned have been notified and the panto has not yet been fully cast. There are several principal roles, character roles and chorus places still up for audition. Female dancers have been notified of the recall.
